Find score and industry benchmarks

One of the many advantages with an Extellio survey is that we offer benchmarks for our KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), such as our find score. The benchmarks allow you to not only compare your score to the grading scale (what scores are approved, good, and very good) but also to compare your scores to your industry. However, before we get to why that is an advantage, there’s another question we need to answer.

What is the find score?

The find score is a measurement of the visitors’ success on a website. Did they find what they were looking for? Did they manage to do what they wanted? By subtracting the share who did not succeed from the share who did you get your score. In the example [placement, e.g. below], 17 is subtracted from 53 to give a find score of 36.

A website can score anywhere between -100 and +100, but the scores are rarely negative. An approved score is 50 or above, while a good score is 60 and above.

The find score is an indication of how user-friendly your website is. A low find score tells you that there likely is a problem on your website. Perhaps the navigation is tricky and it takes too long to find the information the visitors are looking for, or maybe the information the visitors are expecting isn’t available on the website.

Different websites come with different challenges depending on the information and services they offer and will face different demands and expectations from visitors. With that also comes different find scores. That’s why industry benchmarks are helpful.

Compare your score to similar websites

Although we have a grading scale for find scores, we also offer industry benchmarks. The industries are based on what kind of information is available and how the visitors use the websites, to compare websites with similar traits. That way, you can compare your find score to the average for websites similar to your own.

The industry benchmark is an indication of what your score is likely to be, but also what score you’d want to beat. Here are some of the industry benchmarks for 2022:

Understand your find score

The find score is a summary of the website as a whole, but there are always differences within the site, depending on who the visitors are and what they want to do. Once you have your score, especially if it is below approved and the industry, you want to start investigating why. You can cross-tabulate your find question with the role and purpose questions, to get a find score for each role and purpose. That way, you’ll know which roles are struggling and also what information they struggle to find or what they struggle to do. To further increase your understanding of the problem areas on your website, you should also read the text answers.

When you understand your find score, you also understand what parts of the website need improving, and which you should prioritize first.
